Hillander School Testimonials

Hillander School was almost new when I started there in 1968. I remember how hard I worked and that it seemed like I had to work harder than my friends who went to other schools. I later came to appreciate the solid foundation I gained as I moved into the public schools and had a head start over most of the other kids. Building on that solid foundation, I went on to graduate from Midland High School and the University of Texas at Ausin with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

When my wife and I moved back to Midland in 1990, we still had a few years before our oldest child was old enough to enter school. We looked at all the alternatives and quickly realized that Hillander was where she would go. Since that time, all three of our children have graduated from the 6th grade at Hillander and continue to excel at their education. Our oldest daughter graduated from Midland Classical Academy (MCA) and is attending the University of Oklahoma on an academic scholarship. Our younger children are both doing well in high school and have plans to go to college.

The last aspect of Hillander that really stands out to me is the sense of community from alumni. I still know several of the people I went to school with over 30 years ago and most of my children’s best friends are young men and women they went to school with at Hillander. I highly recommend Hillander and I am thankful for the role it has played in my life as well as the lives of my children.

I believe in the Hillander School. I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to attend Hillander. I firmly believe that the educational foundation that I received at Hillander carried me to college and graduate school. When my friends from Hillander and I entered public school in seventh grade, it was obvious that we had attended Hillander. We were all in the honors programs and had study skills that the other students did not have.

I am proud to say that both of my children attended Hillander. My oldest child is now in junior high in public school. She placed in the Gifted and Talented program and is maintaining high A’s in her classes. Once again, most of her friends from Hillander placed in the Gifted and Talented program and are excelling as well. My son is a fifth grader at Hillander. He is doing well and I am extremely grateful for the education he is receiving.

One of my best friends who attended Hillander said that she would forego vacations and new cars before she would sacrifice her children’s education at Hillander. An education from Hillander is the greatest investment you can make in the future of your children. The curriculum is rigorous, but well worth the time. Your child will reap the rewards for a lifetime. The Hillander School provides a college preparatory education and environment that builds leaders and leaves our future in good hands.

I’ve always called the Hillander education “the Southwest Airlines of elementary education”. It’s a no-frills training in language and math/science. It’s proven. It’s successful. Hillander graduates are prepared to excel in any educational environment. I continued my education at an Eastern boarding school, Stanford University and Harvard Business School. I attribute my success in these endeavors to the solid foundation laid for me at Hillander.
